My I35 with about 110k miles pings when it gets hot out (85-90+ F), usually around 1500-2500 RPMs. If I step on it, the ping goes away. I'm running premium (91 octane in CA), replaced the spark plugs with NGKs at 100k miles, tried seafoam in the vacuum line with no improvement. I tried switching gas stations, but it always seems to be there with hot outside temperatures. It does burn about 1 qt. of oil every 3,000 miles or so. When I changed the spark plugs, the #5? (the rear driver's side) had oil above the spark plug where the coil connects. I don't think it's leaking into the cylinder at that point because of the spark plug sealing it off.

Anyone have any ideas? It runs fine but sounds bad with constant pinging sometimes.

Has anyone already tried swapping that piece? I mean it seems removable, but i can't tell if it'd just get destroyed. Tryin to save $50 at the paint shop lol

I currently bought a complete Vq40 engine which was mixing oil/water for $500, that will be swapped in my E30 bmw when I finish rebuilding it and sourcing the other parts needed.

Since I will be rebuilding it, I'm currently in the search for some OEM solution to make the compression higher.

Vq40 specs by SR20DEN:
Rod Length (center dist): 166.87
Rod Stroke Ratio: 1.813 (92mm stroke)
Pin dia. w/bushing: 22.0
Rod big end dia. : 57.0

Has someone compared the Vq35,Vq35HR,and Vq40 pistons? I know the vq35 rods are shorter, but the Vq40 block is also taller than the Vq35HR's block.
Would the Vq35 pistons fit? What compression ratio could they yield?

If not... Also thinking about making a VQ30/40 hybrid.. that way I wont have to tamper with the block but leaves me with what are the exact mods for these heads to be used with the Vq35de Valvetrain..

As you can see from the pic here I am missing a hose, does anybody know what I can replace it with (part number) and a price maybe ? I was talking to somebody from a Nissan shop and they said itd be like $50 but I am not sure if they knew what I was talking about

http://claytonnewmexico.net/airbox.jpg

Now when I put it my new starter motor I noticed the airbox itself is cracked where it mounts on one of hte sides, right around the screw so in time its probably just going to fall apart so I need to looking at replacing that. I have seen them for $60 used (shipped) and $100+ new it looks like plus shipping. So say that with the hose if the dude is right would be around $150.

Would I be better off getting an after market one like these below or something different or just replace the stock ?

Whats the advantage (HP and Fuel etc) and disadvantage of below.
* Some of you may be thinking what happened to V3. Well, technically, our V3 was the Multi-color release. V2 was actually on V2.3 at this point and it was time for a full upgrade.

** Depending on the success/demand, we will be releasing all of our other sizes, and colors for other cars like the E92/E60 and all non-BMW applications
